Domestic quarrel drives weightlifter to commit suicide

Thiruvallur, Tamil Nadu, Aug 16 (UNI) A weightlifter, who had done the country proud in last year's Commonwealth Games, committed suicide by hanging himself following a domestic quarrel, in this district.

Police said M Arun Kumar (30), a Railway employee, had taken the extreme step yesterday following an altercation with his wife Jayapriya (28) over the last three days over spending an amount of about Rs ten lakh he expected to receive from the Government.

Arun had bagged the silver medal in the 62 kg weightlifting category in the 2006 Commonwealth Games and the bronze medal in the 1998 edition. He had also won many medals at the state level.

He is survived by his pregnant wife and a three-year-old son.
