DMK chief has hurt Muslims, alleges Jaya
Chennai, Aug 16: AIADMK supremo J Jayalalithaa today alleged that Tamil Nadu Chief Minister and DMK President M Karunanidhi had hurt the sentiments of Muslims by demolishing the memorials of Islamic saints.
In a statement here, she claimed that the Mr Karunanidhi had lost the confidence of Muslims by making the Wakf Board authorities act against the beliefs of Islam.
''The authorities of Wakf Board have demolished the memorials of Islamic saints at Kannikapuram, Vyasarpadi, in North Chennai,'' in an attempt to damage Islamic principles, Ms Jayalalithaa claimed.
Even the Indian Union Muslim League, the alliance partner of the DMK, had staged an agitation to condemn the act, she noted.
She alleged that the building, constructed for Wakf Board during her previous regime, had now become a ''den for anti-social elements'' due to the lethargic activities of the DMK Government.
