Canadian Counsel General offers assistance for Ludhiana Metro

Chandigarh, Aug 16 (UNI) Canadian Counsel General Ms Helen Amundsen today offered assist of companies from Canada for the proposed Ludhiana Metro Rail project.

Ms Amundsen who met Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) acting president Sukhbir Singh Badal here said that Canadian companies like Bombardier could provide the total transit system and could assist in setting up the project from concept to completion.

She intimated that Bombardier had been selected by Delhi Metro Rail Corporation to supply 85 trains for its phase-II. The company has now added Delhi to its long list of important Metros like New York, Paris, London, Berlin and Shanghai.

The Counsel General suggested that the Canadian company would like to participate in the tendering process when it comes up and would like to assist the Punjab Government in putting the project on the ground by an early date.

She also offered cooperation from the Canadian Government for environmental issues especially solid waste (garbage) management, sewerage treatment and other environmentally friendly projects.

Mr Badal welcomed the initiative of the Canadian Government and he promised that the state government would provide assistance to Canadian companies to bring in latest technology for improving the lot of the common man in Punjab.

Mr Badal indicated that Punjab was very keen to give a thrust to the dairy sector as it provides substantial employment and income generating opportunities to the rural people.

Emphasising that Canada had a capacity to make large investments in infrastructure and power sector, the Counsel General offered her country's assistance in the Shahpur Kandi Dam project.
