New Delhi, Aug 16 (UNI) The Union Cabinet today gave ex-post-facto approval to the extradition treaty between India and Portugal that provides a legal framework for seeking extradition of terrorists, economic offenders and other criminals from and to Portugal.

In the absence of the treaty, India had faced problems getting the extradition of Bombay blasts accused Abu Salem and his partner Monica Bedi from Lisbon.

The Cabinet also authorised the ratification of the treaty, signed on January 11, 2007, Information and Broadcasting Minister Minister Priya Ranjan Dasmunsi told reporters.

In another decision, the Cabinet gave its nod for concluding a bilateral investment promotion and protection agreement with Macedonia.

The agreement is expected to increase investment between the two countries.
