Bio pest control labs set up in Haryana

Chandigarh, Aug 16 (UNI) The Haryana government has set up three Biological Control Laboratories in Cooperative Sugar Mills of Sonepat, Shahabad and Meham at a cost of Rs two crore.

Besides, the work for setting up a laboratory in Cooperative Sugar Mills, Jind is in progress, an official spokesman said today.

These Biological Control Laboratories were helping the farmers in controlling various pests like phyrilla and borers, he said.

The laboratories had started the work of supplying eco-friendly parasites to all the cooperative sugar mills of the state which would be beneficial to lakhs of cane growers of the state.

He said that on establishment of these laboratories, an estimated amount of Rs two crore had been spent for which the state government had provided an amount of Rs 75 lakh. A sum of Rs 20 lakh had been provided by the Centre and the balance amount was being met by the various cooperative sugar mills.

The parasites developed by these biological control laboratories were being supplied to the farmers of all the cooperative sugar mills free of cost, he added.
