Bicycle expedition of WMG makes brief halt
Bangalore, Aug 16: The bicycle expedition team carrying the torch of 4th World Military Games (MWG), beginning in Hyderabad from October 14, from Leh to Kanyakumari reached the city last night.
The members of Corps of Electronics and Mechanical Engineers (EME) of the Indian Army made a brief halt in the city before leaving for Salem in Tamil Nadu.
The team was received by Maj Gen J S Dhillon, Director, Institute of Quality Assurance. It aimed to earn a place in the Limca Book of Records by covering a record 4249 km in just 20 days.
Christened 'Ashwamegh', the team is covering nearly 200 km per day. The expedition led by Maj Vishal Ahlawat, was flagged off from Leh on July 25. The team began its expedition on July 30 after receiving the MWG torch at Saichen Base Camp.
It had traversed through eleven states experiencing all kinds of tarrain and weather conditions including sub zero temperature at high altitude of Leh, challenging passes like Tanglang La, Lachung La, Bariachala and Rohtang pass and planned to reach Kanyakumari on August 18, an official release said here today.
