Assam violence an act of frustration, says Minister

Coimbatore, Aug 16 (UNI) Recent incidents of violence in Assam by suspected ULFA elements was an act of frustration, Union Minister of State for Home Sriprakash Jaiswal said today.

Speaking to newsmen, he said the Centre had made some suggestions to the Assam Government to the control ULFA and they will be implemented.

Referring to the killing of Hindi-speaking people there, Mr Jaiswal said this was done as ULFA tried to gain support of the locals.

Besides, every individual had the right to live anywhere in the country as the enjoyed equal rights.

On the Justice Srikrishna Commission Report on the 1992/93 Mumbai riots, Mr Jaiswal said, ''there is no lobby on this. The Maharashtra Government will slowly implement the report.'' He said the general law and order situation in the country was peaceful when compared to four years ago.
