12 teams for Vohra Sub-Junior hockey
Chandigarh, Aug 16 (UNI) Twelve teams will participate in the sixth SN Vohra Memorial Sub-Junior Under-14 Hockey Tournament which will be conducted by Rock Rovers Hockey Club from August 19 to 26 at the Sector 42 Hockey Stadium here.
The teams have been divided into four pools and winners of each pool will sail into the league. The opening match will be played between Chandigarh Hockey Academy and mehta Gurukul Academy of Doraha.
The second match billed for the opening day will be between Gopal Academy of Kurali and Baba Uttam Singh Hockey Academy Khadoor Sahib.
Announcing the groupings, organising secretary Anil Vohra said that defending champions Surjit Hockey Academy had been clubbed with Malwa Khalsa School Ludhiana, Him Gold Hockey Academy Solan. Last year's runners-up Maharaja Ranjit Singh Academy Amritsar are in group D along with Baba Makhan Shah Lubana Hockey Academy Baba Bakala and Modern Sport School Rohtak.
Chandigarh Hockey Association secretray Yash Pal Vohra said that the final match would be played under lights. Regarding checking the menace of fielding overage players, Vohra said that a team of three highly qualified doctors would be on the panel to examine the doubtful cases. All teams will appear before the medical board.
The winners will get a cash award of Rs 7,000 and runners-up Rs 5,000. Special prizesfor the best goalkeeper, the best fullback, the best half and the best forward will also be given. A panel of experts will also vote for the most well-behaved team of the tournament.
