Two teenagers arrested for double murder in Kashmir

Srinagar, Aug 15 (UNI) Jammu and Kashmir police claimed to have solved the case of an elderly couple's murder within four days with the arrest two teenagers in the central Kashmir district of Badgam in this connection.

Police has also recovered the weapon used for murder, Station House Officer (SHO) of police station Khansahib Asif Iqbal said.

He said on August 11, some residents of Kachwari Khansahib noticed that their blind neighbour 75-year-old Jamal Uddin Kallas and his wife Saira (65) were missing for the past two days.

The elderly couple was living alone as their only son was working in Jammu and Kashmir Police.

The neighbours found their house bolted from inside.

However, they broke the door open and found the elderly couple lying in a pool of blood.

The SHO further said that the police immediately rushed to the spot along with a forensic team and found that the elderly couple had been murdered with a sharp edged weapon.

He said that during the investigation, police found that the house of Kallas had been ransacked after the murder.

The needle of suspicion pointed towards two teenagers identified as 14-year-old Mushtaq Ahmad Jagal, a class 8th student and 15-year-old Mushtaw Ahmed Bijran, a class 9th student, both residents of Guhi Dragan Khansahib.

The duo were arrested and subjected to questioning during which they broke down and confessed their crime, Mr Iqbal said acting on their disclosure, police recovered the weapon of offence and three more swords.

He disclosed that victim Saira was a relative of Mushtaq Ahmed Bijran who had let the culprits into her house on the intervening night of August 9/10.

He said after the elderly couple went to sleep, the culprits brutally murdered them with swords and later ransacked the house in search of valuables and money but could not find anything.

The SHO said after committing the crime, they bolted the house from inside and escaped through another door on the first floor of the house.
