Security forces in Srinagar on toes, looking for IED
Srinagar, Aug 15 (UNI) Security forces, police and personnel from different intelligence agencies were on their toes today, looking for the fourth Improvised Explosive Device (IED), reportedly prepared by militants, to be used during the Independence Day (ID) function in the city.
The three other IED were recovered by the SOG from different parts of the city and its outskirts during the past two weeks.
Official sources said that there were intelligence inputs that militants had manufactured four IEDs in the old city area to be planted and triggered on August 15 at different places.
However, the security forces immediately swung into action and recovered one IED from a house in the down town area while another was recovered in the old city area last week. The third IED was recovered only yesterday.
But, sources said, the fourth IED could not be recovered so far.
Security forces were searching all vehicles coming from the outskirts to city till yesterday, conducting random frisking in the city and conducting search operations to recover the IED.
However, they expressed satisfaction after no untoward incident took place anywhere in the city during the ID function.
