Puducherry to celebrate 'De-Jure' on Aug 16

Puducherry, Aug 15: The Union Territory of Puducherry will celebrate its 45th Independence Day here tomorrow.

It was on August 16, 1962, that the ''De-Jure'' (Legal merger of the Union Territory with the Indian union) was effected after the French parliament ratified the treaty of cession.

The Union Territory will observe a public holiday tomorrow.Freedom fighters, who fought for the liberation of Puducherry from the French colonialism will be honoured on the occasion.
