TN: Lack of alertness; Nine cops suspended

Chennai, Aug 15: Nine police personnel were suspended for their lack of alertness during a security drill at Fort St George last evening.

Police viewed it as a serious lapse and suspended one inspector, two sub-inspectors and six constables, who were posted on Security duty at the Secretariat.

A top police brass trying to check the alertness of the personnel, asked a decoy, carrying a cardboard stuffed with certain items, to place it in the Secretariat after hoodwinking the security rings last evening.

The shocked top brass of the Police department acted swiftly and immediately placed nine police personnel under suspension.

''We wanted to check their alertness and found there was slackness. There are different ways of supervising and the use of decoy was one among them. It was an internal drill. Nine of them were placed under suspension,'' Chennai City Police Commissioner G Nanjil Kumaran said.
