J'khand govt taking steps to control Naxalites: Governor

Dumka, Aug 15 (UNI) Jharkhand governor Syed Sibte Razi today said the state government has been taking measurable steps to control naxal activities in the state.

Addressing the gathering at police lines here after unfurling the Tricolour, Mr Razi said in a bid to keep tab over the ultras, the state police had initiated the Common Information and Police Action (CIPA) programme under which all the police stations of the state capital had been connected through the internet.

Besides, about 3000 vacant posts of jawans would also be filled by October 15 this year, Mr Razi added.

According to the state government report, 18 out of 22 districts in the state were Naxal dominated.

Terming the overall development and implementation of government sponsored schemes a remedy for the menace, Mr Razi said violence was not a solution to any problem.

Elaborating the government's welfare schemes, Mr Razi said that 39,494 houses had been constructed this year under the Indira Awas Yojna and about 18,000 such houses were being repaired.

Giving emphasis to the strengthening of infrastructure, Mr Razi said the government had planned to provide irrigation facilties to about 25 per cent of total agricultural land by 2010.
