I'day turns tragic at Varanasi school, trolley-man electrocuted

Varanasi, Aug 15 (UNI) The 60th Independence Day celebrations turned tragic at a school in the Lohta area here this morning, with a young trolley-man being electrocuted and a boy suffering severe burns in the same accident.

The incident took place at the Sahjanand Saraswati School in Korauta village when preparations were underway to replace the school flag with the national tricolour on a pole at the platform in the school ground.

Owing to high-velocity winds, the overhead electric wireline passing through the school premises came in contact with the flag pole and the trolley-man Dinesh Pandey (26) working on the pole was subsequently electrocuted, police said.

A student of class five Alok Singh (9) also sustained severe burns in the same accident and has been rushed to the hospital where he is stated to be in a critical condition, police added.
