Haryana Govt reduces term of life convicts

Ambala, Aug 15 (UNI) Haryana Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda today announced reduction the period of imprisonment of all life convicts in Haryana by two months.

The Chief Minister, who was addressing the prisoners in Central Jail here on the occasion of the Independence Day, urged them to reform themselves, join the mainstream and serve the society like good citizen.

The prisoners responded to the gesture of the Chief Minister with loud cheers.

Jail Superintendent Raj Kumar said no prisoner was being allowed to use mobile phone in the jail. ''Those found using mobile phones would be dealt with sternly. At present there are 1800 prisoners in Ambala Central Jail and they are being given facilities as per the norms prescribed by the Government.'' The Chief Minister was accompanied by Haryana Pradesh Congress Committee President Phool Chand Mullana, former Minister Venod Sharma, MLA Nirmal Singh and senior officers of district administration.

Meanwhile, Ms Asha Hooda, wife of Mr Bhupinder Singh Hooda visited Civil Hospital in Ambala Cantt and 'Apna Hasptal' in the City and distributed fruits and milk amongst the patients. Ms Hooda also interacted with the patients and enquired about their health.

Civil Surgeon Dr V K Sharma and Principal Medical Officer O P Arya apprised Ms Hooda about the new projects and facilities being provided to patients at ''Apna Hasptal'' in the city.
