Haryana govt announces insurance cover for construction workers

Panipat, Aug 15 (UNI) The Haryana government has launched a noval social security scheme ''Jan Shri Bima Yojana'' in the interest of the workers engaged in the building and other construction activites.

This announcement was made by Finance, Labour and Employment Minister Birender Singh after unfurling the National Flag at the district level function here today.

Mr Singh informed that the scheme not only ensured family protection of the members in case of their untimely death but also helped in the education of their children. He said that in order to get the insurance cover of this scheme, a worker would have to pay a premium of Rs 100 per annum to the Life Insurance Corporation.

He said that the premium would be borne by the Haryana Building and other Construction Workers Welfare Board.

While detailing out the modalities of the insurance cover, the minister said that the Yojana would provide the benefits of life insurance to workers aged between 18 and 59 years engaged in construction activities. He said that payment of Rs 30,000 would be given to the nominee in case of natural death of the insured worker while Rs 75,000 would be given to the nominee in case of death by accident or permanent disability due to accident or loss of two eyes or two limbs or one eye and one limb.

He said that a sum of Rs 37,500 would be paid to the insured worker in case he lost his one eye or one limb in an accident.

He said that under Shiksha Shyog Yojna, a scholarship of Rs 300 per quarter per child was being provided to members having not more than two children and studying in the 9th, 10th and plus two clases. He said that only those families would get benefit under the scheme who would either apply or shall get themselves registered as beneficiaries with the government.
