Haryana Governor calls for shunning petty politics
Kaithal, Aug 15 (UNI) Haryana Governor A R Kidwai today appealed to the people to rise above petty politics and work unitedly to make India a leading nation in the world.
Speaking at the Independence Day function at Police Line here, after unfurling the National Flag and taking salute from the contingents of Police, Home Guard, NCC boys and girls and girl guides, the Governor said sincere efforts should be ade to remove poverty and unemployment.
He paid warm tributes to the known and unknown martyrs and freedom fighters of the country.
The Governor distributed 35 tricycles and 5 wheel chairs to the handicapped. He also honoured freedom fighters, their widows and 15 others for their social work and meritorious services.
A cultural programme was presented by the school children which enthralled the audience. The Governor announced a sum of Rs 1.01 lakh for the participants.
Speaker R S Kadian unfurled the national flag at Yamunagar, while ministers were chief guests at other such functions in the state. The Day was also celebrated at the sub divisional and tehsil level in the state.
