Tripura government had sounded a high security alert to thwart any attempts by separatists to disrupt the Independence Day celebrations in the state following boycott call by militant outfits.

Both the banned tribal militant outfits, National Liberation Front of Tripura (NLFT) and All Tripura Tiger Force (ATTF), in the state, along with 30 other rebel organisations operating in the Northeastern region, had for years been hoisting black flags on both the Independence and Republic Day.

Meanwhile, a hardcore ATTF militant was killed in an encounter with Assam Rifles under Sidhai police station yesterday and one AK 56 rifle, 3 magazines and 87 live cartridges were recovered from him.
