Amritsar's grand old lady completes century on I-day

Amritsar, Aug 15 (UNI) On the occasion of the country's 61st Independence Day, the grand old lady of Amritsar, Tenomai Bhandari today celebrated her 100th birthday at her Cantt residence.

Mrs Bhandari was born on this day in 1906.

She was born in a Parsi family that had migrated to Amritsar in the early part of the last century. Her husband, the late Parkash Chand Bhandari, was an engineer with the Municipal Committee here and was credited with having built the famous Bhandari bridge, which connects the old walled city from the civil lines area.
