A student attempts to end life during Independence day celebration

Mysore, Aug 15 (UNI) In a freak incident, a 14-year-old school boy tried to end his life during a function organised to celebrate 60th Independence day here today.

As soon as the Minister for Cooperation G T Deve Gowda, who is also District Incharge Minister, finished his address after unfurling the tricolour, Eighth Standard student of J S S School, Srikant, with knife in his hand announced that he would end his life by stabing and sacrifice for the nation.

However, alert police who were present in the function thwarted his attempt and took away the knife from his possession. The Minister also spoke to the boy over the incident.

Police said that the boy suffered from ill-health and unsound mind.
