VP greets people on 60th anniv. of Independence Day

New Delhi, Aug 14 (UNI) Vice President Hamid Ansari today greeted the people on the 60th anniversary of Independence Day and said it inspired people to strive towards realising the goal of making India strong and prosperous.

In a message, the Vice President said that during the 60 years of independence, the country had made remarkable progress in many areas of national life.

Many problems of under-development, however, remained and needed to be addressed urgently.

''This Independence Day inspires us to strive towards realising the goal of making India a strong and prosperous country free from the scourge of poverty, illiteracy and under-development,'' he said.

He also paid homage to the freedom fighters who laid down their lives during the freedom struggle.
