Tihar jail housing 11,467 prisoners

New Delhi, Aug 14 (UNI) The high security Tihar jail is housing 11,467 prisoners at present and facilities, including legal aid and vocational training is being provided to them, Minister of State for Home Affairs V Radhika Selvi told the Lok Sabha today.

In a written reply in the House, the Minister assured that ''inhuman'' treatment is not being meted out to them in the jail.

Ms Selvi said reforms are being carried out in Tihar.

XXX XXX XXX XXX XXX TRAFFIC: The Delhi Government has not finalised any proposal to appoint an integrated Traffic Management Group in the national capital, Ms Selvi said in reply to a question about the traffic situation in Delhi.

She said traffic management in Delhi cannot be compared with traffic management in developed countries.

XXX XXX XXX XXX XXX CRIME: Fake currency of the amount equivalent to Rs 65,95,780 has been seized in Delhi from January 1 to July 31st and intelligence inputs suggest involvement of Pakistan's ISI and other agencies, Ms Selvi said in reply to a question about recovery of counterfeit currency.

She said as per the information provided by the National Crime Records Bureau, fake currency amount equivalent to Rs 6,29,07,369 was seized in 2006.

The Minister the Union Government has taken several measures to check the circulation of fake currency.

XXX XXX XXX XXX XXX CRIME: In view of the recent incidents of stunts by bikers, Delhi Police have taken certain measures like round the clock patrolling by motorcycle and foot, checking of vehicles by putting barricades on roads and keeping a close watch over intruders and bikers found roaming about, Ms Selvi said in reply to a question.

She said police pickets and PCR vans are being deployed at important points.

She said legal action is being initiated against the offenders if such incidents come to notice.

XXX XXX XXX XXX XXX TOURISM: The Government has not received any memorandum from the Hotel and Restaurant Association for construction of more budget hotels in Delhi before the commencement of the 2010 Commonwealth Games, Tourism Minister Ambika Soni told the Rajya Sabha today.
