Tight security arrangements in place in K'taka for I-day
Bangalore, Aug 14 (UNI) In the backdrop of threat from terrorist groups, elaborate security arrangements were in place in the city and other parts of the State on the eve of the country's 60th Independence day.
A security blanket had been thrown around the Manekshaw Parade Ground here, the main venue of the State celebrations, where Chief Minister H D Kumaraswamy would unfurl the National flag.
Large number of security personnel have been deployed for trouble-free conduct of the Independence day celebrations, in which dignitaries including Karnataka Governor T N Chaturvedi, Ministers, several political leaders, senior police and military officials would take part.
Top police sources informed UNI that strict vigil would be maintained in all the entry and exit points of the city and other important locations, where surveillance equipment had been installed to monitor the movement of vehicles and people.
Maximum security had been provided to Vidhana Soudha, the State Secretariat, the High Court Complex and other sensitive institutions located in the heart of the city.
The police had also beefed up security measures in other parts of the State, including Mysore, Gulbarga, Mangalore, Hubli and Belgaum, as a precautionary measure.
