Six prisoners to get 'freedom' on I-Day
Puducherry, Aug 14 (UNI) The Puducherry administration will release six prisoners following remission of their sentences, on the occasion of the 60th Independence Day.
According to an official release here today, the Advisory Board on Remission for Prisoners, re-constituted recently, met on August 7 under the chairmanship of Chief Minister N Rangasamy, reviewed remission and release of prisoners lodged in the Central Prison and other jails in the Union Territory.
Following the procedure, remission ranging from three months to one year had been granted to non-life term prisoners, resulting in the release of six prisoners. Another 37 prisoners were also granted varying periods of remission ranging from three months to one year.
The Board has also recommended the release of one life convict in a murder case in 1992 as he had already undergone 14 years of imprisonment.
