RS members agitated over Jammu police crackdown

New Delhi, Aug 14 (UNI) BJP leader Sushma Swaraj today demanded inquiry into the recent incident of police beating up migrant women from Jammu who have been displaced due to terrorism in the valley.

About 2,000 families from Rajouri, Doda and Udampur were stopped on their way to the national capital on August 10 when police lathicharged them, she said during zero hour in the Rajya Sabha.

The women were demanding compensation from the Centre. Ms Swaraj said the home ministry released compensation amount but the state government failed to disburse it.

CPI(M) member Brinda Karat said action should be taken against the policemen involved in the incident.
