Rs 4200 crores being spent on development of Srinagar city: Azad

Srinagar, Aug 14 (UNI) Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad today said a massive infrastructure development programme for Srinagar would be undertaken with budget of Rs 4200 crore for the improvement and upgradation of civic amenities.

Mr Azad was interacting to a gathering from downtown Srinagar who met him here to talk about developmental issues of the old city.

The Chief Minister said Srinagar, along with Jammu city, would be improved under JNNURM whose main thrust was improvement and extension of facilities of sewerage, drainage, sanitation, water supply and internal roads in the city.

The detailed project reports, Mr Azad said, have been approved by the Central government which would be funding the entire scheme.

He said the augmentation of water supply scheme in the city would be undertaken at a cost of Rs 338 crore while drainage system for greater Srinagar would cost Rs 400 crore.

The internal roads of the city would be upgraded and sanitation facilities improved, he said, adding that some projects for providing basic services to the urban poor were also in the pipeline.
