Right to dwelling land in rural MP

Betul, MP, Aug 14 (UNI) On the occasion of the nation's 61st Independence Day, the Madhya Pradesh government will initiate granting of a right to dwelling land to about 1.5 crore rural families.

This is possibly the first state to take the initiative. Just as nazul land in a city is government property, dwelling land in a village is the land on which an abode is built but such land is not considered the house-owner's property.

''The ruling BJP's initiative will in a way fulfill a dream of the Father of the Nation Mahatma Gandhi who believed that India lived in villages. A survey will begin tomorrow and the chief minister's rural land-dwelling right booklets will be distributed from January 26, 2008,'' Revenue Minister Kamal Patel told UNI.

Pointing out that the booklets would make it easy for villagers to avail loans for children's education and marriages, he added that hologram-bearing land right booklets would begin to be printed for farmers in the next three months.
