Red alert in Purulia and Bankura

Purulia, Aug 14 (UNI) A red alert was today sounded in Maoist prone Purulia and Bankura districts of West Bengal.

Purulia district Superintendent of Police Ashok Kumar Prasad said the alert was issued apprehending Maoist attacks in some pockets of Purulia bordering Jharkhand on the eve of Independence Day.

Police patrolling was stepped up in nine checkposts of Purulia bordering Jharkhand, including Jaipur, Jhalda and Bandwan areas.
