Kolkata, Aug 14 (UNI) Purvanchal Vyapar Mandal(PVM), a platform for the trading community of Eastern zone, today condemned the massacre of the Hindi speaking people in Assam.

PVM's general secretary Shantilal Jain in a letter to President Pratibha Patil, said the ULFA and Karbilongry National Liberation Front gunmen let loose a reign of terror in Assam and killed over 150 Hindi speaking persons since last September.

Copies of the letter was mailed to the Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, Union Home Minister Shivraj Patil, and Assam Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi, urging them to make an effort for restoring peace in the state.

Mr Jain said panic has gripped the Hindi-speaking community in the state following the spate of attacks on them during the past five days in which 30 people have been killed. The Assam government as well as the Centre should ensure the security of the non-Assamese people and restore peace, he added.
