Mizo MLA wants kidnap case solved
Aizawl, Aug 14 (UNI) Mizoram's Suangpuilawn MLA H Lalsangzuala has requested President Pratibha Patil to initiate a probe into the infamous Suangpuilawn kidnap case, which was allegedly X-filed by the MNF government.
Greeting the newly-elected President at Rasthrapati Bhavan in New Delhi a few days ago, Mr Lalsangzuala had submitted a memorandum to Mrs Patil, requesting her to probe into the kidnap case, which had been left unsolved despite the discovery of registration numbers of the vehicle allegedly used in the abduction.
The abduction case dated back to the 2003 Assembly elections in which Mr Lalsangzuala, an independent candidate, was backed by the Hmar People's Convention (HPC), sources close to the MLA said.
The HPC had allegedly launched an armed campaign on Mr Sagnova's instigation and kidnapped the remaining three candidates - H Laltanpuia (MPC), Vaninmawia (MNF) and H Ngurdingliana (Congress).
The kidnap had even resulted in the Central Young Mizo Association, which happens to be one of the most powerful NGOs in Mizoram, boycotting the newly-elected Suangpuilawn MLA Lalsangzuala.
Later, it was alleged that the ''kidnap drama'' was staged by the MNF to destroy Mr Sangnova's popularity, with MNF's candidate Vaninmawia and MPC's candidate H Laltanpuia as 'materminding the act'.
Even the electronic voting machines used in the constituency were damaged by Mr Sangnova's opponents. However, they could not destroy the memory chips, which declared that Mr Sangnova had won with huge margin, sources said.
