Live grenade found near the DC office at Ganderbal in Kashmir
Srinagar, Aug 14 (UNI) The CRPF today foiled a militant plan to carry out an attack during Independence Day function at Ganderbal when they detected and defused a live grenade just near the venue.
A CRPF spokesman told UNI that a party of 49 battalion headed by company commander Dheeraj Mohan conducted a search operation at Ganderbal following a tip-off about militant plan to attack during the ID function.
He said troops finally found a live grenade just near the wall of Deputy Commissioner's office, Ganderbal.
Deputy Commissioner is scheduled to unfurl the national flag on the office premises tomorrow.
Spokesman said militants had wrapped the grenade in polythene and kept near the wall to take it inside tomorrow after going through normal checking near the main gate.
Had it not been detected, the militants would have succeeded in their plan to carry the grenade inside the venue and then hurl it on those participating in the ID function.
He said similar search operations are also being conducted in other areas where the ID functions will be held tomorrow.
