K'taka to bring stern laws to curb illegal trading of organs
Bangalore, Aug 14 (UNI) Karnataka Health Minister R Ashok today said that the state government planned to bring in a stern law to curb illegal trading of human organs in the state.
Speaking to newspersons here he said a high level meeting of officials under the ministry was held today to discuss the issue following a busting of a kidney racket at Nelamangala on the outskirts of the city on Sunday.
He said the government would plug the loopholes in the procedure followed in permitting of transplanting of kidneys.
This step comes in the wake of the kidney racket, where the accused forged documents and produced fake affidavits as proof of relationship between the donor and the recipient hood winking the Authorisation Committee for transplantation of organs.
A special squad would be appointed to find out the extent of illegal transplant of organs made in the state. The government would also set up an inquiry into the incident and ensure stringent action against the culprits, he added.
