Kerala Govt earmarks Rs 318 cr for road maintenance
Kochi, Aug 14 (UNI) The Kerala Government today stated before the High Court that an amount of Rs 318 crore has been earmarked for taking up maintenance of roads across the State.
Mr N Mohan Kumar, Executive Engineer, PWD, R and B Division, Ernakulam, filed the statement on behalf of the State on a petition filed by one Ajith Kumar of Edappally, Ernakulam, who sought a direction to the State to repair roads in the State.
He further stated that of the amount, Rs 160 crore was set aside for major maintenance and the rest for taking up minor works. A sum of Rs 140 crore was released for payment towards contractors for the pending bills corresponding to April 2005 to November, 2005.
Mr Justice K M Joseph, after hearing the petition, observed that in view of the fact that traffic bottleneck appeared to arise out of the conditions of the North overbridge and directed the PWD department to attach priority to completing the necessary repairs in the bridge.
