Heavy rain lashes South Bihar, inundates most parts of Patna

Patna, Aug 14 (UNI) More than 100 milimetre of rain pounded since last night and flooded most parts of Patna and several South Bihar districts disrupting normal life causing inconveniences to people today.

As a result of the heavy rain, most of the low-lying areas, including those in the city's posh localities like Srikrishna Nagar, Rajendra Nagar, Patliputra Colony, Kankarbagh and Gandhi Colony were waterlogged upto knee-deep water.

In many other places, rain water had entered into the ground floor in almost all the buildings forcing the residents to take shelter elsewhere.

Several newspaper and news agency offices including UNI are surrounded by huge pool of filthy knee-deep water causing severe inconveniences to the employees to reach their offices.

Because of the heavy rain, most of the educational institutions declared holiday and in some cases even examinations had been postponed as the number of students was very few.

Attendance in both government and private offices and in Banks was also very thin.

The number of vehicles, both public and private plying on the city roads was also few and far between.

In many places local people were seen clearing garbages to drain out water from the water logged streets as employees of the Patna Municipal Corporation were nowhere to be seen.

Moreover, most parts of the city also remained without electricity since last night and with no initiative coming from the authorities the possibility of restoration of power soon seemed remote.

However, there was no report of any loss of life from anywhere despite the presence of a number of open manholes and pot holes all over the city and its neighbourhood, thanks to the negligence of the local municipal authorities and the alleged unconcerned attitudes of the state government.
