Hearing on Maneka's PIL deferred till Aug 17

Allahabad, Aug 14 (UNI) The Allahabad High Court has deferred till August 17 BJP MP Maneka Gandhi's PIL to seeking to direct the Union of India and others to include the names of those natives of Pilibhit district in the voter's list, who were residing there prior to the Partition of Eastern Pakistan.

A Divsion Bench, comprising Justices S R Alam and V C Mishra, passed the order on a PIL filed by Ms Gandhi.

The BJP MP had mentioned that several people had migrated to Pilibhit between 1955-1971. Such residents be given the right to vote in the 2009 Lok Sabha election.

The petitioner had stated that the electoral registration officer, Pilibhit, was not including the names of those, who had migrated to the district prior to the Partition of East Pakistan, in the voting list of the Pilibhit Parliamentary constituency.
