Kolkata, Aug 14 (UNI) The CPI(M) has taken a principled stand on the Indo-US civil nuclear deal, though the party will discuss the issue at its Polit Bureau meeting, West Bengal Chief Minister Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee today told Prime Minister Manmohan Singh.

'' The Prime Minister telephoned me this morning. I have told him that he is well aware of our stand on the issue. But I will talk to him when I will be in Delhi to attend the Polit Bureau meeting, '' he said while speaking at a condolence meeting of departed Forward Bloc leader Kamal Guha.

Mr Bhattacharjee said the CPI(M) stand on the issue was based on the discussion it had earlier. However, the party's Polit Bureau would take it up again on Augurst 16 and 17.

Observing that the US was putting pressure on India, Mr Bhattacharjee said the Left parties had repeatedly asked the UPA Government at the Centre not to go into the strategic partnership and bow to the US wishes.

''But they did not listen to us and the agreement has not done anything good to our country. '' ''At this juncture the opinion of the Left is of utmost importance and the whole nation is looking at what we do. In this situation, the Left's unity is very much necessary, '' he said.
