Corp formed to operate cable services in TN

Chennai, Aug 14: The Tamil Nadu Government tonight announced launch of Arasu Cable TV Corporation (Government Cable TV Corporation), to operate cable services in the state.

The independent State-owned firm would function under the Information Technology Department. It would have a Chairman and Managing Director as head, and Finance secretary, IT secretary and Chairmen of ELCOT and TNEB as directors, according to a release here.

The Cabinet, chaired by Chief Minister M Karunanidhi, had decided on August 11 to launch a government undertaking to provide Cable TV service by functioning as a Multi System Operator (MSO) in the city, where there was Conditional Access System (CAS), and as Cable TV operator in other parts of the State.

The Cabinet's nod followed the decision taken at a high-level meeting on August nine, chaired by Mr Karunanidhi, to start Cable TV operation through a State-owned public sector undertaking and approach the Centre for necessary licences.
