Coast Guard rescues Chinese sailor from mid-sea

Port Blair, Aug 14 (UNI) The Coast Guard rescued an injured Chinese sailor from a foreign vessel near Andaman and Nicobar Islands, officials here said today.

The Maritime Rescue Coordination Centre (Port Blair), after receiving a message from a Singapore based shipping company, launched a rescue operation and evacuated the injured crew member, Zhan Fang Yong.

Commandant Akshay Jain of the Coast Guard told UNI a helicopter was used to evacuate the injured sailor from a vessel, which was on its way to Thailand with a cargo of pig iron from Haldia in West Bengal.
