City jewellers pull down shutters to protest dacoity

Lucknow, Aug 14 (UNI) Jewellers in the Uttar Pradesh capital today pulled down the shutters to protest a dacoity-cum-murder on the premises of a fellow trader yesterday evening.

Police, meanwhile, claimed to have ''definite clues'' on the twin murder. ''Besides dacoity, we are working on the theory of old enemity,'' a police official said.

Five armed men entered the premises of Sri Nath Ji Jewellers in the busy Aliganj area and killed two people and injured as many before decamping with jewellery worth over Rs one lakh.

The shop owner N Rastogi and a salesman sre battling for life at the King George's Medical University Trauma Centre.

While the guard succumbed to his injuries on the spot, the sales man died at the hospital late last night. After the incident, irate traders of the area blocked the main road, claiming that despite several requests, policemen never patrolled the area.

The jewellers have, meanwhile, demanded compensation for the kin of those killed in the incident. They have also sought money for treatment of the injured.
