Case filed against JMM candiate for violation of code

Jamshedpur, Aug 14 (UNI) Acting on the order of the Election Commission, a case of violation of model code of conduct was filed with the Bistupur police station here against UPA-backed Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM) candidate Suman Mahto.

The case was registered yesterday against Ms Mahto for presence of more persons than permitted by the EC during the filing of her nomination papers on August 9 for Jamshedpur Lok Sabha bypoll scheduled for August 29, official sources said today.

Twelve people including Jharkhand Chief Minister Madhu Koda, deputy chief ministers Sudhir Mahto, Stephen Marandi and other ministers were present at the deputy commissioner-cum-returning officer's chamber that directly violated the guidelines laid by the EC, which say apart from the candidate and his/her proposer, another four people are allowed during the filing of nomination papers.

Several candidates, including BSP candidate Salkhan Murmu, BJP candidate Dinesh Sarangi had drawn the EC's notice and urged to take action against Ms Mahto.

Two cases of violation of model code of conduct were also filed against Mr Murmu and another against the Shiv Sena candidate B P Singh, the sources said.
