AP Govt to release prisoners in 15 days

Hyderabad, Aug 14 (UNI) Andhra Pradesh Home Minister K Jana Reddy today said about 1,500 prisoners would be released on remission in 15 days in connection with Independence Day.

Speaking to newspersons here after a review meeting with top police officials chaired by Chief Minister Y S Rajasekahra Reddy, the Home minister said the prisoners would be released after preparing a list.

He said more than 5,000 people were undergoing imprisonment in several jails in the state.

Earlier inthe day, the Supreme Court had refused to stay the order of the government to release the prisoners.
