AP Govt postpones remission of prisoners
Hyderabad, Aug 14 (UNI) The Andhra Pradesh Government has postponed granting of remission to prisoners on the occasion of Independence Day, following the Supreme Court's refusal to stay the Government order to release about 1,500 prisoners, Home Minister K Jana Reddy said today.
Speaking to newspersons here after reviewing the issue with Chief Minister Y S Rajasekhara Reddy and top police officials, he said it would take another 15 days to release the prisoners.
Stating that over 5,000 prisoners were behind the bars in several jails in the State, he said more than 1,300 prisoners would be released as per the guidelines.
