3477 accused nabbed, 22 gang busted in July in Haryana

Chandigarh, Aug 14 (UNI) Haryana Police has succeeded to arrest 3477 accused and recovered the looted property of worth Rs. 194.15 lakh from them during the first fortnight of July 2007 in the State.

While giving this information here today, a spokesman of the Police Department said that police had nabbed 22 criminal gangs involved in dacoity, robbery, motor vehicle theft, burglary, other theft and arrested 14 proclaimed offenders and 91 bail jumpers during this period.

The Police had arrested 354 persons and solved 307 cases out of 753 registered under crime against property like robbery, dacoity, burglary, extortion and theft.

He said that State police had achieved remarkable progress in working out 298 registered cases out of 342. As many as 422 accused were sent behind the bars in criminal cases like murder, culpable homicide, hurt and kidnapping and abduction during the period under report.

The Police also succeeded in solving 168 cases out of 186 registered crime against women like dowry deaths, kidnapping and abduction, rape and molestation and arrested 165 persons involved in these cases.

He said that Police had nabbed many smugglers and gamblers in the state and seized 654 bottles of illicit liquor, 1745 bottles of licit liquor from them and caught six working stills.

Police had recovered a sum of nearly Rs 9.85 lakh and succeeded in getting conviction of 65 persons under Gambling Act by registering 212 cases and also 282 cases under Excise Act. The Police had registered 73 cases under NDPS Act and recovered, nearly 6.12 kg opium, 8.95 kg charas and 64 illegal arms alongwith 36 sharp-edged weapons, he added.

He further revealed that the Police had saved 64 persons involved in 343 road accidents occurred on National and State Highway passing through Haryana.

He said that Police had solved 65 cases pending over a period of one year, 168 cases pending over six months and 427 cases pending over three months, 93 complaints pending over two months and 470 complaints pending over one month during the last fortnight.
