UP Police launches special drive to arrest 'early birds'; 615 held
Lucknow, Aug 13 (UNI) The Uttar Pradesh police this morning launched a special 'pre-dawn' drive to arrest thieves, drug peddlers and wanted criminals.
Additional director general of police (Law and Order) Brij Lal said here that the drive launched between 0200 hrs and 0500 hrs resulted in the arrest of 615 miscreants. ''We recovered stolen goods, drugs, weapons and vehicles across the state,'' he said.
Checking was carried out at a total of 5501 places and 472 cases registered. The police arrested 23 wanted criminals and recovered weapons, including knives, live cartridges and country-made bombs.
The police also revovered a stolen air conditioner, earrings, metal wires, water pump, rice and wheat. Besides, several stolen vehicle were also seized during the checks.
Interestingly, while the drive was on, former Team India player Jyoti Yadav's SUV was stolen outside his house in the state capital.
