SC refuses to entertain Atiq's plea for CBI probe

New Delhi, Aug 13 (UNI) The Supreme Court today declined to entertain a petition filed by Samajwadi Party MP Atiq Ahmed, seeking a CBI inqury into the registration of fresh criminal cases against him by the Mayawati Government in Uttar Pradesh for ''settling political scores.'' Atiq Ahmed, who is the main accused in the murder of BSP MLA Raju Pal, has already been declared an absconder in the case and the state government has announced a reward of Rs 2500 on his head.

A bench comprising Chief Justice K G Balakrishnan and Justice R V Raveendran told the petitioner to approach the Allahabad High Court for the relief he is seeking, and permitted his counsel to withdraw the petition.

The petitioner, the MP from Phoolpur constituency of the state, had alleged in his plea that he was being implicated in false cases at the behest of Ms Mayawati and claimed that he was not involved in the murder of the BSP MLA.
