Neyyattinkara Vasudevan gets Swathi Puraskaram
Thiruvananthapuram, Aug 13 (UNI) Carnatic music exponent Padmasri Neyyattinkara Vasudevan has been chosen for the Swathi Sangeetha Puraskaram 2006, instituted by the Kerala Government.
The award is in recognition of his valuable contribution to Carnatic music. The awards were announced here by state Cultural Minister M A Baby.
The award carries a cash prize of Rs one lakh, a statute and a citation.
The award was instituted in 1997, in memory of Swathi Tirunal, former king of erstwhile Travancore.
Mr Vasudevan was selected by a jury comprising Sangeetha Nataka Akademi Chairman Bharat Murali, Ramesh Narayanan, Dr B Arundathi and Sangeetha College principal Rajalakshmi.
