Lok Sabha adjourned twice on nuclear deal issue
New Delhi, Aug 13 (UNI) The Indo-US nuclear deal today rocked the Lok Sabha as the entire Opposition and the Left parties stalled the proceedings protesting against the deal, forcing the Speaker to adjourn the House twice.
The members rushed into the well of the House, shouting slogans against the Congress-led UPA government. They did not pay any heed to the repeated pleas of Speaker Somnath Chatterjee for resuming their seats.
The House was first adjourned till 1130 as soon as it met. Again within minutes after it reassembled the Speaker adjourned it till 1400 hours amid pandemonium.
Adjourning the House, the Speaker announced that Prime Minister Manmohan Singh would make a statement on the nuclear deal at 1400 hours instead of 1500 hours, as decided earlier.
The members of the ruling alliance remained mute spectator to the uproar raised by the combined opposition on the deal, shouting slogans ''Congress ki goondagardi nahi chalegi'' (High-handedness of the Congress will not be tolerated).
The RJD members were also up on their feet protesting worsening of the flood situation in Bihar, and sought discussion on the matter.
The Speaker also announced that the discussion on the flood situation would be taken up immediately after the Prime Minister's statement on the deal.
