HC stays arrest of Arjun Singh's kin in dowry case
Allahabad, Aug 13 (UNI) The Allahabad High Court today stayed the arrest of Union Human Resource Development Minister Arjun Singh's grandson Abhijit, son Abhimanyu and four others in a dowry harassment case.
Abhijit's father-in-law Manvendra Singh had filed an FIR against them, alleging that his daughter Priyanka was subjected to cruelty and harassed for dowry by the petitioners.
A division bench, comprising Justices Imtiyaz Murtaza and V K Verma, directed the complainant and the Uttar Pradesh government to file a reply.
Manvendra had lodged the FIR at Chandausi police station district Moradabad on July 29, 2007.
He claimed that Arjun Singh, his son Abhimanyu, daughter-in-law Veena, grandson Abhijit, sister-in-law Aradhana, Dilip Singh and Mandakini had harassed his daughter for dowry and even physically assaulted her.
The petitioner's counsel argued that the averments made in the FIR were not true.
