Govt says no US patent granted to yogic postures

New Delhi, Aug 13 (UNI) The Government today clarified that no patent has been granted to yoga postures per se by the US Patent and Trade Mark Office in America.

Minister for Science and Technolgy Kapil Sibal told the Rajya Sabha in a written reply that since the search of the data base of the US patent and trade mark office has shown no patent granted to the yogic postures, the government has not taken up the matter with the US administration.

Patents granted on products, processes or methods which were already in the domain of public knowledge, are not legally valid, he informed and said since yogic postures are well known for ages, no valid patent could be granted to them.
