Gothra Maha Sabha asks govt to speed up providing title deeds
Pathanamthitta, Aug 13 (UNI) Gothra Maha Sabha Chairperson C K Janu today urged state Chief Minister V S Achudhanandan to take initiatives in providing title-deeds to the tribals and dalits who have established rights by occupying the Kumbazha estate of Harrison Malayalam Plantation Limited.
Talking to reporters here, Ms Janu decried the government's stand towards the on-going 'Land Struggle'. She said there was enough land available in the state for distribution to the landless. The land that was in the possession of Harrision Malayalam Plantation should be recovered as the lease period of it had expired long ago.
She demanded the take over of the land under Harrison and distribution of the same to the landless tribals and dalits immediately. She requisted the Achuthanandan government to prepare a package aimed at providing land to the landless dalits on the model of the package given shape to by the previous United Democratic front government specifying provision of one to five acres of land to adivasi families.
Ms Janu revealed that an action plan would be formulated at its meeting to be held at Kannur on August-16 for intensifing the 'Land Struggle' of the dispossessed.
